Both Deceased Students Named in the Providence Campus Shooting as Police Continue Manhunt for Perpetrator.

Two students who lost their lives in Saturday’s tragic incident in Providence were being remembered Monday – while an intensive search for their assailant continued following the release by local law enforcement of the single suspect questioned in the case.

Remembering Ella Cook

The student Ella Cook, a second-year student from Alabama, was remembered as “a wonderful, steady, devout, shining presence”, as stated by the Birmingham's Cathedral Church of the Advent, which paid tribute to her at a ceremony on Sunday.

She served as second-in-command of Brown’s division of the College Republicans organization, according to the organization. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt also expressed words of sorrow online, saying in part: “Words cannot express. Thinking of her family and friends, above all her mom and dad.”

The Second Victim

The other person killed was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov from Uzbekistan, an Uzbek national in his freshman year at the renowned school, his family confirmed.

The victim's identification was confirmed by the Uzbek Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“He was exceptionally gentle, witty, and bright. His ambitions were lofty of pursuing a career in neurosurgery and assisting patients,” his sister, Samira Umurzokova said in a online post.

Details of the Attack

Nine other people were injured in Saturday’s attack in the school of engineering of Brown’s grounds in Providence, during the school’s final exam period.

Authorities said by the end of Sunday that a 24-year-man detained in a police operation at a Hampton Inn about approximately 17 miles from the scene earlier in the day was released from custody.

“We have a murderer out there,” stated the state's top prosecutor, Peter Neronha.

He continued, “Sometimes you head in one direction, and then you have to regroup and head another way, and this is precisely what occurred over the last 24 hours or so.”

Community Anxiety

The city's mayor, Brett Smiley, noted: “This will probably generate fresh anxiety for our public”.

The assailant opened fire inside a room in the engineering building on over the weekend, firing more than 40 rounds from a 9mm handgun, a authority reported to the Associated Press.

Officers that entered the lodging recovered two handguns and two loaded 30-round magazines when the person of interest was detained, as was reported.

Those Hurt

Among those wounded, one pupil was allowed to go home, mentioned the university president, Christina Paxson. An additional seven were in serious yet stable state, and another was critically ill, police said on Sunday.

A private school, a private academy in the city of Durham, said a recent graduate, Kendall Turner, was among those critically wounded.

A group leader, Martin Bertao, posted a statement from the club. “She was famed for her courageous, valiant, and compassionate nature as she worked for her branch and other students,” he said.

The US ambassador, Jonathan Henick, said he was “profoundly grieved” by the student's death in a message. “We extend our sincere condolences to the Umurzokov family, companions, and peers and grieve for of his bright future.”
