Defiant Nancy does not fear being fired but supporters display wrath after loss.
Wilfried Nancy insisted he did not fear the sack, maintaining, “We are very near to things turning around,” despite edging perilously close to the chopping block with a heavy loss to their arch-rivals.
Another Meltdown Results in Derby Loss
The home side had led Rangers at half-time but a collapse after the break allowed the Gers to draw level on points with the defending Scottish Premiership champions. The former MLS manager, who was hired from Columbus Crew, has now presided over six losses in eight games.
“There is unity at the club,” insisted the manager.
Questioned about whether he was concerned, the 48-year-old responded: “I don’t think about it. I think about working out methods to help my team to excel on small moments.
Supporters' Anger Erupts
Hundreds of supporters voiced their fury – towards the dugout and directors – by gathering at Parkhead. The board are reportedly likely to re-appoint Martin O’Neill, who enjoyed a successful interim spell before Nancy was hired, if the Frenchman were sacked.
“The outcomes [that leads to pressure]. And that’s the reality for the moment. Yet in stating that’s how it is, that is not a sign that I am a defeatist guy. No. My point is the turnaround is near, extremely close to turn things around.”
Nancy’s Persistent Belief
He highlights the fact Celtic play well for a half at a time. Indeed, were it not for poor finishing they could have been more than 1-0 up. “The performance had merit aside from the fact that we missed a second goal,” he said. “I know that we lost, but it's important to stay objective.
“The standard we had at stages was of top quality. This is the reality. I could not talk like that if it was not the case. That is the reason, when it comes to wins, I said we've seen this before. For that reason I feel a change is coming to getting it right. Currently: the fine margins.”
“We produced many, many good things that we did, like today again. The issue now it’s about performing for 90 minutes. My outlook would not be if it was not the case. That’s why I am convinced the team can to get back on track.”
The Rangers Boss Stance
Danny Röhl played down talk of a title charge even after what appeared to be a landmark win. “Step by step, so we can gradually build momentum,” he said. “The confidence in the team is outstanding.”
