A renowned South African media personality and entertainer has been shot dead in the country's largest city Johannesburg, sending shockwaves across a country battling persistent crime.

Warrick Stock, widely recognized as DJ Warras, was shot and killed in the downtown area on Tuesday afternoon.

Officials stated the 40-year-old presenter was approached by three suspects, with one began shooting at him before escaping on foot.

The motive of the incident has not been established and no suspects have been apprehended have taken place, according to authorities.

How It Happened

Police indicated that Stock was ambushed as he was departing from a premises in the vicinity of the Carlton Centre.

He had spent several hours at the site supervising the setup of safety equipment, which had been controversially occupied by squatters, as per local media.

"It is alleged the man was confronted by three unknown suspects after parking his vehicle, and they began shooting at him before escaping on foot," a police statement stated.

CCTV footage reportedly captured a suspect with dreadlocked hair and wearing what looked like a guard's attire opening fire on Stock before fleeing.

The DJ attempted to flee after he was wounded but fell down a short distance away.

Police added that Stock had an gun that was not fired and no items were stolen during the incident.

Important clues, like bullet casings, were recovered from the location.

Police have appealed anyone who saw the event who may have have information to assist with the investigation.

"Evidence suggests they walked a long distance after the attack, and investigators have been attempting to locate them to determine their whereabouts," added an official.

His family member, a close relative, stated the relatives are devastated to process his death.

"I am in shock. I am shattered," were her words.
