Arsenal's manager feels assured that his side can continue to cope with player absences after confirming that attacker Kai Havertz remains out for a few more weeks.

Prolonged Recovery for German Star

The German forward has been sidelined for months due to an operation on his knee. Initially expected to be available sooner, Arteta revealed the player encountered a problem when stepping up his rehabilitation and was unable to move forward “the next phase.”

“We learned, and we were able to put together a group that is much more reliable and has more options,” stated the manager.

Selection Dilemma for Brentford Clash

This update leaves a dilemma for Wednesday’s match against Brentford. A decision is required between persisting with Mikel Merino, who scored playing out of position last weekend, or reinstating Viktor Gyökeres, who featured briefly off the bench as a substitute. Long-term absentee Gabriel Jesus remains an option post-recovery.

Fitness Doubts Persist

Further fitness issues affect defender William Saliba and attacker Leandro Trossard, who sat out the Stamford Bridge game. Therefore, recent arrivals Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié are likely to continue in the backline for the table-toppers.

Arteta feels the significant outlay on new players ahead of this season has resulted in a far better place to deal with such unavailability.

Squad Depth Vital for Title Challenge

When asked if more options was benefiting their title quest, the manager agreed. “Yes, as this campaign has presented greater challenges in certain positions, and now the problems with the backline,” he noted.

“We learned from the past that we must deploy players in various roles, and they need to be prepared to adapt to new tasks if we are to fight at this level. And the instance of Mikel is just the best one.”

Manager’s Sympathy for Frustrated Star

Commenting on the setback highlighted by Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann, Arteta provided further detail. “He followed all protocols. He was unable to progress to the required step and now the signs are like we have solved that issue.”

The manager conveyed his eagerness to welcome him back. “We’re all desperate to have him. Honestly, Havertz is someone that, in my view, I value highly for what he brings to the team, but his character, his personality. I observe his frustration on the sidelines.”
