Seamer Atkinson Compounds England's Fitness Concerns.

'Major setback' for England as Atkinson is forced off with a hamstring injury.

The pace bowler further complicated the injury concerns plaguing England upon exiting the playing area early on day two of the fourth Ashes Test versus the Australians.

Atkinson felt a problem in his left hamstring after the final ball that he bowled at the MCG.

The England team stated Atkinson had experienced "tightness" and required time off the field in order to be assessed "over the next few hours".

The concluding match of the series in Sydney starts at the end of the week.

England have been without fast bowlers Mark Wood with a knee problem and Jofra Archer with an abdominal strain during this series.

A replacement bowler was called up as injury reinforcement.

Atkinson struggled early in the series, taking just a handful of scalps.

He was left out from the previous Test, then recalled for the Boxing Day match to fill the void.

The county bowler performed better in the fourth Test, claiming a couple of wickets in Australia's first innings, then making 28 with the bat as one of just three English batsmen to get into double digits.

Post a single over late on the first day, he resumed the next day and removed Scott Boland taken by the wicketkeeper.

Yet, at the end of his spell, he delivered a variation to Travis Head and promptly felt for his hamstring.

The English bowler returned to the side for the fourth Ashes Test having missed the Adelaide game.
