The Latest Relaxed Game Mode Ignites Heated Debates Regarding Bots, XP Rewards, and Wait Times

Recently, the game developers introduced a new game mode titled Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode mirrors the regular Breakthrough setup but includes a few key adjustments:

  • Every squad includes just eight real players, with the remaining made up of AI-controlled opponents.
  • Actions performed by human gamers grant complete experience points, while bot actions provide lower rewards.
  • Only two maps can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
  • Elements like Player tags, achievements, and career stat updates are disabled.

In short, this mode delivers on its name: it offers a laid-back take of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume there's nothing wrong, as it gives additional choices for players looking for alternative methods to enjoy the game. But, gaming history has shown one thing, it is that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, a lot of Battlefield 6 players are mad.

Player Reactions: Anger to Support

"Gamers prefer real players. Don't repeat the mistakes of your competitors," states a response to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing idea," comments a different user. At the same time, in community forums, a player notes, "It's unclear where we are going with this title," and someone else details everything they believe to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."

However, for every complaint, some gamers explaining how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to practice, human participants keep it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," says a forum post. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are gamers who actually go outside and can't play this title all the time. Let them strike a balance," states a different comment. One reply via social media explains that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is great for me," while someone else applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Constructive Concerns and Player Input

All that said, there are valid points to criticize the new mode. A few folks have pointed out that it could increase queue times even longer for other modes due to the sheer number of options in the game already. On a similar note, some areas already encounter AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a minimum number of real players, even though it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.

Lastly, one of the biggest grievances is that Battlefield Portal was promised to provide full XP, even against bots, but that got canned when they tried to remove XP farming from the system. So this new playlist seems like the player base compromising in the middle, according to a Reddit comment. A different user describes this addition as the devs "dropping the ball so hard, I experienced great enjoyment in the first couple of days, what prompted them to change it?"

Future Prospects: Adjustments Be Made?

If the development team has proven anything to date with the latest installment, it is that they're paying attention and acting on feedback. Assignments being too difficult got fixed very quickly, as did the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, should analytics indicates this recent mode isn't performing to their standards, they will not hesitate to change it again.
